Skywalker Grill Opens at the Lucas Museum in South LA
Skywalker Grill Is Landing in Exposition Park This September
George Lucas’s highly anticipated Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is preparing to open in South Los Angeles—and it’s bringing a destination restaurant along for the ride.
Skywalker Grill is projected to begin service on September 22, 2026, inside the museum’s striking new Exposition Park campus. Backed by museum founders George Lucas and Mellody Hobson, the restaurant promises contemporary American cooking with a polished California sensibility and inspiration drawn from the legendary Skywalker Ranch.
A New Dining Destination for South Los Angeles
Skywalker Grill arrives with plenty of cinematic name recognition, but the kitchen has serious culinary credentials of its own.
Chef Daniel Guillen, formerly chef de cuisine at the InterContinental Los Angeles and the iconic Hotel Bel-Air, will lead the restaurant. His opening menu is expected to feature approachable American dishes elevated with refined ingredients and thoughtful technique.
Early highlights include:
- Crispy chicken Milanese
- A Wagyu beef burger
- Fresh pastas made in-house
- Contemporary American dishes inspired by Skywalker Ranch
The result sounds less like a novelty theme restaurant and more like an elegant museum dining experience—one designed to attract Exposition Park visitors, neighborhood residents, USC crowds and Los Angeles diners in search of something new.
More Than a Museum Restaurant
Skywalker Grill will be part of the nearly 300,000-square-foot Lucas Museum of Narrative Art at One Lucas Plaza. The museum will explore visual storytelling across fine art, illustration, comics, photography, film and digital media.
The sculptural building was designed by Ma Yansong of MAD Architects, with a surrounding landscape envisioned as a gathering place where art, nature and community meet. The campus also includes galleries, theaters, educational spaces, a research library and green space.
With Skywalker Grill anchoring the culinary side of the experience, visitors will soon be able to turn a museum afternoon into a full Exposition Park outing—art, architecture, gardens and dinner included. The museum identifies the restaurant as one of the campus’s destination amenities. Learn more about the Lucas Museum.
Why Skywalker Grill Matters for South LA
Exposition Park already draws visitors to some of Los Angeles’s most recognizable cultural and entertainment destinations. The arrival of the Lucas Museum—and a restaurant with this level of talent behind it—adds another major attraction to the neighborhood.
It also gives South Los Angeles a new dining room positioned to bring together residents, museum visitors, tourists and the surrounding creative community.
Skywalker Grill’s name may bring people through the door, but Chef Guillen’s contemporary menu could give them a reason to return.
